Our story started out with the acquisitions, in 1972, of the São José Clinic, a small maternity clinic in the upstate Rio de Janeiro town of Duque de Caxias. Following this two more clinics were acquired. Success in managing this structure allowed the creation of Amil Assistência Internacional in Rio de Janeiro, in 1978.
The birth of Amil led to innovative ideas, such as the concept of no limit on consultations and tests, service points close to the clients and a 24-hour call center with an on-duty physician.
1986 saw the start of expansion of our activities, to the city of São Paulo.
Two years later we set in motion a growth strategy focused on comparative marketing, highlighting our advantages and facilities in relation to our competitors. This stance, at that time, allowed us to achieve the highest growth rates across the whole sector of supplementary health care.
In 1989 we started up our operations in the State of Paraná and in the city of São Paulo.
In 1993 we launched the Amil Resgate Sáude rescue service, one of the largest structures for emergency situations in South America, using land and air transportation.
In 1995, we set up the Amil Medications Program, offering medications at a discount to all our clients. At the same time we implemented the concept of a Zero Grace Period for our health insurance plans while starting our process of international growth, attaining a license to operate in the restricted and rigorous American health market.
In 1997 we set up a structure for service abroad to attend our clients in any country around the world, centralizing overseas operations at our headquarters in Miami.
1997 also saw the opening of Dix Saúde, conceived to serve natural persons in the C and D income groups (principal focus) along with micro-companies (secondary focus) in the State of Rio de Janeiro.
In 1999, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, we opened the first Total Care, a groundbreaking concept of attending to our clients who require special medical care and accompaniment.
Two years later, in 2001, we implemented the strategy of Medical Excellence, seeking to integrate our differentials and setting up a network of services to prolong and preserve life.
In 2002 we opened the new offices of our branch in Curitiba, in Paraná State, in this way repositioning our company on the market. In that same year we opened our administrative HQ in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
At the end of 2002, Dix acquired Amico, a traditional São Paulo company on the market for over 40 years. The companies have begun to act jointly, through an operational sales agreement. August 2003 saw the birth of DixAmico, one of the five largest group medicine operators in the country.
Also in 2003, with a view to encouraging the practice of voluntary actions by our employees, we launched the "Vida" Project, with the initial milestone of a blood donation campaign.
In 2004, with the Amil Health Management concept we were innovators once again. With this system, which allies high technology with knowledge, we began to analyze, map out and address the risks of our clients, taking preventive action in disease control. At this time our new products are becoming part of our portfolio, including "Next", a new concept in health insurance that prioritizes the doctor-patient relationship.
In 2006 we acquired the client portfolio (natural persons) of insurers Porto Seguro and Semic.
Also in 2006 we launched the Amilguinhomóvel, a social responsibility project consisting of a bus traveling around, providing children with dental and ophthalmic care.
In 2007, celebrating its tenth anniversary, DixAmico returns to the name of Dix Saúde. In this same year we have acquired Blue Life, Med Card and Clinihauer, while Amil Participações Ltda. has been transformed into Amil Participações S.A., a joint-stock corporation.
